Atty Faces Prison Time For Illegal Edwards Donations

Law360, New York (August 5, 2011, 9:20 PM EDT) -- California litigator Pierce O'Donnell has agreed to serve six months in prison for using straw donors to funnel illegal contributions to former Sen. John Edwards' first presidential campaign in 2004, prosecutors said Thursday.

O'Donnell admitted to soliciting family and employees at his firm, O'Donnell & Associates LLC, to each make $2,000 contributions to the North Carolina Democrat's presidential campaign. In the plea deal, O'Donnell copped to two misdemeanors for making "conduit contributions" in March 2003.
