Canadian Class Certified In Suit Over Wyeth's Premarin

Law360, New York (August 8, 2011, 8:46 PM EDT) -- A Canadian judge on Thursday certified a class in a suit claiming that Wyeth Canada's hormone drug Premarin causes breast cancer, while parallel litigation in the U.S. continues.

Judge J. Miriam Gropper found lead plaintiff Dianne L. Stanway provided enough evidence to bolster her claims, overruling arguments by Wyeth, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals Inc., Wyeth Holdings Canada Inc., Wyeth Canada and Wyeth Ayerst International Inc. that the individual circumstances of each allegedly affected woman outweighed the overall similarities among them.
