AT&T Boosts Voice Mail Security After News Corp. Scandal

Law360, New York (August 8, 2011, 7:12 PM EDT) -- AT&T Inc. beefed up security for its voice mail systems Friday following allegations that News Corp. journalists in the U.K. hacked into messages meant for thousands of private consumers ranging from Paul McCartney's ex-wife to a murdered 13-year-old girl.

The telecommunications giant is changing its systems to password protect voice mail systems by default, AT&T's Chief Privacy Officer, Robert Quinn, wrote in a blog post Friday.
