Mortgage Insurer's Doc Requests Too Broad: Judge

Law360, Washington (August 10, 2011, 1:05 PM EDT) -- A Tennessee federal judge ruled Tuesday that Republic Mortgage Insurance Co.'s requests for documents on First Tennessee Bank NA's loan application practices were too broad, in First Tennessee's suit claiming RMIC stopped honoring coverage obligations for mortgages in default.

First Tennessee bought mortgage guaranty insurance from RMIC pursuant to a master policy issued in June 1983, which provided that RMIC would reimburse First Tennessee for losses it incurred when borrowers defaulted on their mortgages.
