DeLay Atty Says Campaign Check Not Money Laundering

Law360, New York (August 12, 2011, 6:54 PM EDT) -- Prosecutors pulled off “the old razzle dazzle” in convincing a jury last year that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's routine transfer of a $190,000 campaign check to his fellow Republican candidates constituted money laundering, DeLay's attorney told a Texas state appeals court Thursday.

Brian Wice said his client didn't commit a crime when he sent the contribution in 2002 to the Republican National Committee, which in turn distributed the sum to seven Republican candidates running for various positions in the Texas Legislature.
