LA Port Terminals To Pay $8.6M Over Diesel Pollution

Law360, New York (August 16, 2011, 3:32 PM EDT) -- California Attorney General Kamala D. Harris on Monday announced an $8.6 million settlement with a group of Los Angeles-area cargo terminals that allegedly exposed the public to dangerous levels of diesel exhaust without posting a required warning.

The settlement, reached in California court, requires seven Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., cargo terminals to pay $1 million apiece to reduce future diesel emissions, as well as a total of $1.6 million for other green projects and civil penalties.
