Pfizer Sues To Block Generic Lipitor

Law360, New York (August 17, 2011, 1:35 PM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. on Monday filed a patent infringement suit against Macleods Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in New York in an effort to keep the Indian drug company from developing its own version of blockbuster cholesterol-lowering medication Lipitor.

The pharmaceutical company lodged its suit in response to Macleods filing an abbreviated new drug application seeking permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to sell a generic atorvastatin calcium product before Pfizer's patent for the drug expires.
