Groupon, Others Sued Over Customer Profile Patents

Law360, New York (August 17, 2011, 1:26 PM EDT) -- Patent-holding company Pinpoint Inc. accused Groupon Inc., L.L. Bean Inc., Hotwire Inc. and Orbitz LLC in Illinois on Tuesday of violating two patents for technology related to online customer profiles.

The Chicago-based firm — which owns the rights to iReactor Inc.'s portfolio of patents invented by Frederick Herz — claims that the retailers and travel sites infringe two patents that allow website users to create customized profiles that the site can then use to send personalized alerts.
