San Juan Fires Back Against Pay Phone Antitrust Claims

Law360, New York (August 18, 2011, 7:40 PM EDT) -- The city of San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Wednesday called Pan-American Telephone Co.'s revised putative class action “meritless,” claiming it did not sufficiently demonstrate the city had conspired to illegally grant competitor Phoneworks Inc. a pay phone contract.

The municipality filed a motion to dismiss the amended complaint in the Puerto Rico district court, saying the suit, which alleges San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini gave Phoneworks monopoly control of city pay phones, was fatally flawed.
