German State Doesn't 'Like' Facebook Analytics Policy

Law360, New York (August 19, 2011, 2:04 PM EDT) -- The privacy regulator for the German state of Schleswig-Holstein on Friday instructed companies and other institutions in the state to remove their fan pages and plug-ins from Facebook, saying the features violate German and EU data protection laws.

The Independent Centre for Privacy Protection, or ULD, said features such as Facebook's “like” button relay personalized data to website owners without properly informing the site's visitors or allowing the visitors to opt out of the data collection.
