Ford Accused Of Excursion Defects After Fatal Rollover

Law360, Chicago (August 22, 2011, 4:43 PM EDT) -- Ford Motor Co. was sued in Illinois state court Friday over a deadly rollover car crash that the plaintiffs claim was caused by inherent design defects in its 2005 Excursion SUV.

In their complaint targeting Ford and local dealership Fair Oaks Ford Inc., plaintiffs Cory Stephens and Debra Phillips allege that the Excursion's lack of passenger protections and its tendency to roll over instead of sliding when a driver loses directional control led to the 2010 accident that killed Stephens' wife and injured Phillips.
