L'Oreal Targets Ampro In Hair Gel Trade Dress Suit

Law360, New York (August 22, 2011, 3:40 PM EDT) -- L'Oreal USA Inc. filed a trade dress infringement lawsuit Friday in New York federal court, claiming that the packaging of Ampro Industries Inc.'s Shine 'n Jam hair gel copies the containers for its Let's Jam product line.

The suit contends that the Let's Jam line is the leading brand in the ethnic conditioning gel segment and that Tennessee-based Ampro's packaging includes graphics, colors and layout that mimic L'Oreal's trade dress for the brand.
