US OK'd Highway That Could Cause Floods: Sierra Club

By Kaitlin Ugolik (August 22, 2011, 10:19 PM EDT) -- The Sierra Club on Monday accused the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Association and the Texas Transportation Commission of approving a road project despite knowing it could cause a dam breach and flood parts of Houston.

In the midst of preparations for construction of a new segment of roadway on the "Grand Parkway" called Segment E, the Corps allegedly issued an internal memorandum designating the nearby Addicks and Barker Dams as facing "urgent and compelling" danger.
