6th Circ. OKs 7-Year Sentence For NCFE Witness Bribe

Law360, New York (August 23, 2011, 8:24 PM EDT) -- The Sixth Circuit on Tuesday affirmed a seven-year prison sentence for Karl A. Demmler, who had been convicted of trying to bribe a witness in the securities fraud trial of two former executives of collapsed health care financing company National Century Financial Enterprises.

The appeals court rejected Demmler's arguments that the district court had deprived him of a fundamentally fair trial by refusing to give an entrapment instruction to the jury and had handed him an unreasonable sentence by miscalculating the advisory guideline imprisonment range....
