Edwards Wants Campaign Finance Trial Postponed Again
By Liz Hoffman (August 25, 2011, 5:37 PM EDT) -- Former presidential hopeful John Edwards asked Wednesday for more time to prepare for his criminal trial over alleged federal election law violations, saying his legal team is overwhelmed by more than 400,000 government documents.
In a motion filed in North Carolina federal court, the ex-senator asked U.S. District Judge N. C. Tilley Jr. to postpone the trial, in which Edwards will face accusations that he illegally used nearly $1 million in campaign donations to cover up an extramarital affair that resulted in a love child. The trial is currently set to begin in October.
