AP, Getty May Settle Court Artist's Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (August 25, 2011, 7:12 PM EDT) -- A lawyer for a renowned courtroom sketch artist told a Virginia federal court Monday that the artist is in talks with The Associated Press and Getty Images US Inc. to settle her lawsuit claiming the media companies resold her copyrighted images.

The lawsuit, lodged in April by renowned courtroom artist Patricia Ann Lopez, alleges that the AP and Getty Images resold to the public drawings to which she retained the copyrights — sometimes for fees of up to $12,000 for a one-month license.
