Judge Could Trim Scientology Child Labor Suit

Law360, Los Angeles (August 25, 2011, 7:19 PM EDT) -- A California state judge indicated Thursday he would likely trim claims by a man raised in a division of the Church of Scientology International that allegedly forced him to work hazardous jobs as a child for minuscule pay.

In a lawsuit filed by plaintiff Daniel Montalvo, Judge Ernest M. Hiroshige tentatively ruled to axe negligence claims and a breach of fiduciary duty claim against Church of Scientology Western U.S. Inc., a unit of the church, as well as a breach of fiduciary duty claim against Scientology's main organization.
