State Dept. Greenlights TransCanada Oil Sands Pipeline

Law360, New York (August 26, 2011, 2:50 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of State on Friday released a final environmental impact statement greenlighting TransCanada Corp.'s thousand-mile pipeline that will transport tar sands oil from Canada to Oklahoma and Texas.

The State Department found that the Keystone XL pipeline, if approved by the president, will have minimal environmental impact. The department said it is on track to make a final decision on the $7 billion project by December.
