Chartis Seeks To Drag Air Force Into Base Cleanup Suit

Law360, Washington (August 26, 2011, 4:05 PM EDT) -- Chartis Inc. on Thursday filed a motion for joinder of the U.S. Air Force in an insurance dispute over environmental cleanup costs at the former Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado, saying the action cannot be completely resolved without it.

The dispute arises out of Chartis' alleged refusal to pay up to $15 million from an insurance fund created by the Air Force and the Lowry Economic Redevelopment Authority. The fund was intended to pay for the cleanup of contaminated groundwater at the Air Force base,...
