Wellington Dodges Liability For Oil Platform Repair Cost

Law360, Washington (August 29, 2011, 4:36 PM EDT) -- Texas's highest court ruled Friday that Wellington Underwriting Agencies Ltd. is not liable for costs incurred by The Houston Exploration Co. in preparing repairs for an offshore oil platform after tropical storms came through the region in 2002.

The Texas Supreme Court ruling follows a 2008 appeals court decision that the trial court erred in granting summary judgment to Houston Exploration on the matter of whether “standby charges” were covered under its policy with Wellington.
