Fallen Judge's Secretary Can't Sue Over Firing: 5th Circ.

Law360, New York (August 29, 2011, 7:32 PM EDT) -- The Fifth Circuit ruled Friday that a former secretary of impeached U.S. District Judge G. Thomas Porteous Jr. could not sue the appeals court's Judicial Council for suspending the judge's authority to employ staff, a decision that led to the the secretary's termination.

The appeals court affirmed a lower court's finding that sovereign immunity protects the Judicial Council from Rhonda Danos' suit alleging the panel lacked the authority to suspend Judge Porteous' staffing privileges.
