Disgraced Mass. House Speaker Denied New Trial

Law360, New York (August 30, 2011, 5:00 PM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal judge on Tuesday rejected a request for a new trial from former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi and a co-conspirator convicted of hatching a bribery scheme to help two software companies score multimillion-dollar government contracts.

U.S. District Judge Mark L. Wolf refused to order a new trial for DiMasi and lobbyist Richard McDonough, who were convicted in June of conspiracy, mail fraud and wire fraud for using DiMasi's influence to secure government contracts for Cognos ULC and Montvale Solutions LLC.
