Jack Daniel's Sues Competitor Over Use Of Jakk'd Mark

Law360, New York (August 31, 2011, 6:00 PM EDT) -- Jack Daniel's Properties Inc. accused a beverage maker of trademark infringement and unfair competition on Tuesday for its use of the name “Jakk'd” for a flavored grain alcohol beverage and a label design similar to that of several JDPI products.

JDPI makes a line of flavored whiskey beverages, and Jack Barreca, founder of Jakk'd Holdings LLC and Beverage Resources International Inc., knew the white vertical logo against a black background on his products would infringe the "Jack Daniel's" trademark, according to the complaint filed in Colorado federal court....
