Food Reps Blast Biofuel Hikes In Energy Bill

Law360 (June 14, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Before taking steps to boost the country's renewable biofuel supplies, the U.S. Senate should note that diverting corn away from farmers could impact the meat supply and adversely affect forests, water and public health, a group of food industry representatives has said.

“On farms and in forests across the country and abroad, imprudent biomass harvesting would cause soil erosion, water pollution and habitat destruction,” the group, which includes food companies H.J. Heinz Co. and Kellogg Co., said in a letter to the Senate last week....
