OFT Renews Ryanair, Aer Lingus Deal Probe

Law360, New York (September 1, 2011, 1:45 PM EDT) -- The U.K.'s Office of Fair Trading on Thursday renewed its investigation into whether Ryanair Holdings PLC's 2006 purchase of a minority stake in Aer Lingus Group PLC fell under the country's merger control laws and threatened air transport competition.

The British antitrust watchdog asked for public comments on whether the five-year-old transaction — an acquisition of a 25 percent stake in the Irish carrier amid a hostile takeover bid that the European Commission eventually rejected as anti-competitive — amounted to a relevant merger situation.
