Judge Nixes Stolichnaya Vodka Trademark Suit

Law360, New York (September 2, 2011, 2:14 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday tossed a long-running lawsuit over the trademark rights to Stolichnaya vodka, finding that a Russian government-owned company lacked standing to challenge distributors’ use of the marks in the U.S.

Daniels ruled that Federal Treasury Enterprise Sojuzplodoimport did not have the right to sue over the trademarks because it was not a legal representative for the marks' owner the Russian Federation.
