SmartMetric Launches New Attack On Visa, MasterCard

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 2:25 PM EDT) -- SmartMetric Inc. said Tuesday it had hit Visa Inc. and MasterCard International Inc. with a lawsuit in California federal court accusing the credit card giants of infringing its patent for smart card technology.

SmartMetric's Aug. 29 suit claims Visa and MasterCard infringe its patent by selling credit card systems that involve inserting data cards into a reader in order to help establish an automatic connection to a network.
