Shell Unit Pays Up Over Chemical Spill Notifications

Law360, New York (September 6, 2011, 6:50 PM EDT) -- A division of Royal Dutch Shell PLC has paid $500,000 to settle allegations that it failed to notify local authorities about five releases of chemicals from a refinery in Deer Park, Texas, Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan announced on Tuesday.

Ryan had threatened to sue Shell Chemical LP, which operates the facility, for not telling Harris County officials about the emissions events, which allegedly took place between April 2008 and March 2010.
