Edwards Wants Criminal Charges Over Gift Money Tossed

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 6:42 PM EDT) -- Former Sen. John Edwards sought in court papers Tuesday to rip apart the novel theory that federal prosecutors used to indict him in North Carolina for campaign finance violations and said they targeted him unfairly because he is a Democrat.

The two-time presidential hopeful was indicted in June over nearly $1 million in private gift money that was used to hide his extramarital affair and love child during the 2008 presidential election cycle.
