Nivea Parent Settles Lotion Weight Loss Fight In Canada

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 3:39 PM EDT) -- Beiersdorf Canada Inc., Canada's distributor of Nivea brand skin care products, on Tuesday entered a $300,000 agreement with the country's Competition Bureau to settle allegations that it falsely claimed users could slim down by using its My Silhouette body lotion.

Beiersdorf did not admit to any wrongdoing, but agreed to pay the $300,000 penalty plus $80,000 to cover the costs of the bureau's investigation, in the latest settlement over the controversial body lotion claims.
