Chevron Units Settle Gas Storage Suit For $24.5M

Law360, New York (September 7, 2011, 9:12 PM EDT) -- Chevron USA Inc. and Chevron Stations Inc. have agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle claims that they failed to inspect underground gasoline storage tanks sold to gas stations, the California attorney general announced Wednesday.

The proposed settlement was submitted to the California Superior Court in Alameda County just days after the state filed a complaint against the gas giant's subsidiaries based on an investigation that found violations of state hazardous materials and hazardous waste laws in 32 counties.
