2nd Circ. Skeptical Of Chevron $18B Judgment Block

Law360, New York (September 16, 2011, 8:07 PM EDT) -- A Second Circuit panel on Friday expressed doubt that a New York judge who blocked the worldwide enforcement of an $18 billion environmental judgment against Chevron Corp. had the legal authority to issue that ruling.

U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan ruled in March that Ecuadoreans who won the judgment against Chevron in their home court — claiming Chevron predecessor Texaco polluted a rainforest — cannot enforce that judgment anywhere until he holds a November trial to decide whether judicial corruption was behind the win....
