NRC Splits Vote On Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Site

Law360, New York (September 9, 2011, 10:01 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Friday issued a split decision on whether to allow the U.S. Department of Energy to withdraw its application to build the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository in Nevada.

The NRC's Atomic Safety and Licensing Board voted 2-2 on whether or not to overturn a June 29, 2010 decision denying the DOE's request to withdraw its application to build the controversial nuclear waste dump.
