Dolby Drops Suits After RIM Licenses Patents

Law360, New York (September 12, 2011, 3:07 PM EDT) -- Dolby Laboratories said Monday that it had dropped patent infringement suits against Research In Motion Ltd. in California and Germany because the BlackBerry maker agreed to license the technology at issue.

Dolby unit Dolby International AB brought the complaints against RIM in June, alleging it had engaged in intentional and persistent infringement of Dolby's patents for digital audio compression by employing the technology in BlackBerry smartphones and Playbook tablet devices.
