American Apparel Fights Back Against Calif. Labor Fine

Law360, Los Angeles (September 15, 2011, 3:18 PM EDT) -- American Apparel USA LLC sued the California Department of Industrial Relations' labor division Wednesday, challenging a $510,000 fine levied against the clothing retailer for failing to file a 2009 garment registration document.

The Los Angeles-based clothing retailer claims it submitted the form to the state — which the Division of Labor Standards and Enforcement requires all California garment manufacturers to do annually — in January 2009 and then resubmitted it in March of that year to correct minor defects with the document.
