Ex-Primary Global Tipster Gets 18 Months In Prison

Law360, New York (September 15, 2011, 7:43 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday sentenced a former freelance consultant at expert networking company Primary Global Research LLC to 18 months in prison for providing inside tips on his semiconductor company to hedge funds.

U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff said the relatively harsh sentence for Manosha Karunatilaka, a former account manager for Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. is necessary to deter others. The defense had asked for six months in prison and six months of house arrest.
