Ex-Va. Lawmaker Must Report To Prison: Judge

Law360, Wilmington (September 16, 2011, 1:31 PM EDT) -- A Virginia federal judge on Thursday ordered a former state legislator to begin serving 9 1/2 years in prison for trading state money for a job at Old Dominion University, denying a motion for release pending appeal.

While conceding that defendant Phillip A. Hamilton was not a flight risk and that his appeal was unlikely to be a delaying tactic, U.S. District Judge Henry E. Hudson ruled that the appeal did not raise questions that would likely result in a reversal or new trial.
