News Corp. Unit Could Pay $4.7M To Hacking Victim's Family

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 7:16 PM EDT) -- News International on Monday was reportedly in talks to give £3 million ($4.7 million) to the family of Milly Dowler to settle claims that now-defunct tabloid News of the World hacked into the voice mail of the 13-year-old girl, who went missing in 2002.

The Guardian reported that the settlement would include a £1 million donation to charity from News International chairman Rupert Murdoch's personal fortune. No agreement has been finalized, however, and the family's lawyers allegedly are seeking an amount closer to £3.5 million, according...
