Medicare Fraudster Gets 35 Years For $205M Bribery Scam

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 6:19 PM EDT) -- A Florida federal judge on Monday sentenced American Therapeutic Corp. co-owner Marianella Valera to 35 years in prison and $87.5 million in restitution for her role in a kickbacks scheme that bilked the government out of $205 million in phony Medicare payments.

U.S. District Judge James L. King also sentenced ATC marketing director Margarita Acevedo to 91 months in prison for her role in an eight-year scheme through which ATC sought reimbursement for services its Alzheimer's and dementia patients either didn't need or never received....
