Advocates Spar Over Proposed 401(k) Options

Law360, New York (June 19, 2007, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A dispute over the inclusion of stable value funds as a default option for employers in employees’ 401(k) plans heated up Monday when a consumer group and a mutual fund research group sent a joint letter to the U.S. Office of Management and Budget in opposition to the funds.

As more and more companies create 401(k) plans and offer them to employees in place of company stock options or pension plans, employees have become increasingly aware of their rights under the plans.
