Southwest Wrongly Halted Free Drink Deal, Suit Claims

Law360, New York (September 21, 2011, 5:05 PM EDT) -- Southwest Airlines Co. was hit with a putative class action in Alabama federal court Wednesday for allegedly breaching a contract with its Rapid Rewards program members by refusing to honor free drink coupons that bear no expiration date.

Southwest unilaterally decided on Aug. 31 to stop honoring coupons already issued to Rapid Rewards members even though no terms of the coupon program allows the airline to revoke coupons delivered to and accepted by program members, plaintiff William J. Baxley alleges.
