No Bail For Ex-Mass. House Speaker Amid Appeal

Law360, New York (September 23, 2011, 7:31 PM EDT) -- A Massachusetts federal judge on Friday refused to let a former top state legislator remain free while he appealed his conviction of allegedly taking bribes in exchange for helping two software companies secure government contracts.

After a hearing that stretched more than three hours, U.S. District Judge Mark L. Wolf denied former state House Speaker Salvatore DiMasi's and lobbyist Richard McDonough's motions for bail pending appeal of their June convictions of hatching a bribery scheme to help Cognos ULC and Montvale Solutions LLC win multimillion-dollar contracts....
