Feds Seek 57 Months For Chinese Weapons Exporters

Law360, New York (September 23, 2011, 7:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. asked a Virginia federal judge Thursday to send two Chinese nationals to prison for up to 57 months for allegedly conspiring to illegally export specialized microchips classified as weapons to their home country.

The penalty for Hong Wei Xian and Li Li is warranted in part because the U.S. needs to deter foreign nationals from attempting such schemes in the future, prosecutors said in a memorandum seeking between 46- and 57-month sentences for the pair.
