Ex-Army Capt. Gets 10 Years For $1.3M Bribery Scheme

Law360, New York (September 23, 2011, 6:07 PM EDT) -- A decorated former U.S. Army captain was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for taking bribes from contractors in an alleged $1.3 million scheme the U.S. Department of Justice called the largest prosecuted bribery case related to the U.S. mission in Afghanistan.

U.S. District Judge Anthony J. Trenga sentenced Sidharth Handa, 32, to the minimum sentence allowable for taking home more than $157,000 in bribes to go with his Bronze Star. Handa, a resident of Charlotte, N.C., pled guilty in Virginia federal court June 21...
