EU Opens Antitrust Probe Of Bank E-Payment Standards

Law360, New York (September 26, 2011, 1:56 PM EDT) -- The European Commission on Monday began investigating efforts by a group of European banks including Barclays PLC and Deutsche Bank AG to standardize online payment processing, in order to make sure new competitors can access the market.

The regulator launched an antitrust probe into the European Payments Council's work to set up e-payment standards as part of its Single Euro Payments Area project, a program to create an integrated payment market across Europe that has the backing of the commission and the European Central Bank....
