Acacia Buys Patent Holding Company With 27 Patent Portfolios

Law360, New York (December 16, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- In a move certain to raise red flags, the company behind a wave of controversial patent lawsuits over streaming media and wireless internet technology has vastly expanded its patent portfolio.

On Thursday, Acacia Technologies agreed to buy the assets of privately held Global Patent Holdings, an umbrella company which has sued or struck patent licenses with Intel, Sony and Samsung, among others.

Global Patent Holdings owns 11 patent licensing companies, giving Acacia control over 27 patent portfolios including 121 U.S.
