EU Revises Dual-Use Export Regs To Curb Rights Abuses

Law360, New York (September 27, 2011, 6:19 PM EDT) -- The European Parliament on Tuesday voted to impose new rules governing the export of items that can be used for both civilian and military purposes, in an effort to stop European products from being used to violate human rights.

The legislation was aimed at preventing the export of technologies that can be used "in connection with a violation of human rights, democratic principles or freedom of speech,” according to a statement from the European Parliament.
