EPA Orders Aerojet To Fund $60M Superfund Cleanup

Law360, New York (September 29, 2011, 1:21 PM EDT) -- Federal environmental regulators said Wednesday they had ordered defense contractor Aerojet to complete a $60 million cleanup of groundwater polluted by rocket fuel at a California Superfund site, which requires at least five additional cleanup plans over the next decade.

Aerojet has worked since 1981 to rid the 27-square-mile swath of groundwater underneath and near its former aerospace facility in Sacramento County of hazardous waste chemicals, including trichloroethylene and perchlorate — a main component of rocket fuel and a toxin known to harm children's development....
