Synthes Execs Sentenced Over Bone Cement Trials

Law360, New York (November 21, 2011, 9:02 PM EST) -- Three former Synthes Inc. executives were sentenced in Pennsylvania federal court on Monday for their complicity in illegal clinical trials of bone cement conducted during spinal surgery on about 200 patients — three of whom died on the operating table.

Michael D. Huggins and Thomas B. Higgins were sentenced to nine months in prison, while John Walsh was sentenced to five months in prison. The trio was also fined $100,000 each. A fourth executive, Richard Bohner, was scheduled to be sentenced Monday as well, but his hearing was postponed.
