Red Hat Snaps Up Cloud Storage Co. Gluster For $136M

Law360, New York (October 4, 2011, 4:11 PM EDT) -- North Carolina-based open source software company Red Hat Inc. said Tuesday that it had struck a deal to buy privately held data manager Gluster Inc. for $136 million in cash to boost its cloud-computing offerings.

Gluster, headquartered in Sunnyvale, Calif., will give Red Hat the ability to store so-called unstructured data — emails, log files and social network postings — online with open source software, Red Hat says. The company hopes to standardize processes for storing data on-premises and public clouds.
